Gel Electrophoresis. Yup, our instructor doesn't help us do this like in school. We do everything ourselves from making the gel to inserting DNA fragments to running the gel.

Now, this is gel extraction. We cut out the gel and dissolve it by putting it in a hot water bath and vortexing it every five minutes. Then, if I'm not wrong, we do a miniprep on what's left to extract the DNA... I can't remember.

This is the area where I've been sitting for the past two weeks. haha. When I first came, I was like, omg sooo professional and all that. But now it's like, something close to the school's classroom.

This is the area for gel electrophoresis. You can see the sign that says DANGER Ethidium Bromide a known carcinogen or whatever. meaning you get cancer. Cuz to be able to see the DNA under UV light, you need to stain it with ethidium bromide. When ethidium bromide is connected to DNA, it glows under UV. so yeah. And just to note, Yia Kuan and I have been working in this area for the past two weeks. Did I mention that I think I touch the area with my bare arm? haha. We're supposed to work with gloves. but you know how clumsy and blur I am...

haha. I'm always so fascinated by this every time I see it. I always feel like pulling the lever and seeing what happens next. haha. and yes, I know what it's there for.
